The National Sew a Jelly Roll Day falls on Saturday, September 19. The day encourages makers of every skill level to open up a roll of fabric strips and stitch something fun. In addition to the Jelly Roll Race class offered on September 19, we celebrate the jelly roll by offering a class on September 11 to make a colorful, practical tote bag with pockets made using one jelly roll. We welcome everyone from beginners to experienced quilters. A day of fun, creativity and friendly community.

Join us to help make quilts to accompany beds made by Sleep in Heavenly Peace (Off the floor, into a bed and under a quilt). If you are not familiar with Sleep in Heavenly Peace it is an organization that builds beds for kids that don’t have a bed to sleep in. They provide the bed and bedding and Quilts Across America provides a quilt.

It has six handy outside pockets, an optional interior hanging zippered pocket, a magnetic closure at the top, bound interior seams and polyester webbing for the straps, and it is machine washable.

The Zip-N-Grip is the ultimate accessory for storing all of your essentials. It can be used as a cosmetic or toiletry bag or a bag to store and carry your art or sewing supplies. I would call this an advanced beginner or intermediate skill level because of the challenge of adding a zipper pull and sewing one side closed. It does require a little bit of binding on the inside but that is sewn on in one step. You can use vinyl, quilt cotton or a lightweight canvas. My suggestion is to use a quilt cotton for your first bag.
